Policy 14.1 - IP: Cage an idea or set it loose?

Intellectual property (IP) is something we take for granted as law. But would they be allowed in an Islamic State? When it comes to trademarks, it’s yes, but for copyrights and patents the answer is no. Inventors/artists owns the idea. However, once it’s sold – the buyer is free to do what they want with their property. They can redistribute it – if they attribute it to the originator. Such an approach would solve the problem of patent trolls; a $500 billion problem and reduce the cost of digital goods to near zero if not zero.
